Veggie Rocks CD review

This picture is evidently not important enough for your computer to bother with.

Yes you read right (alliterations are awesome).

I was looking for skillet from the library and stumbled across this. It’s pretty much a bunch of generally awesome bands singing Veggie Tales songs.

Due to general variety in the album I must go and describe each track.

  1. Veggie Tales Theme – Rebecca St. James
It’s kinda disappointing. Starts out really slow and then delves into a flyleaf-ish sorta sound. Which somehow doesn’t work as well as one would hope when singing “broccoli, celery, gotta be….)
  2. I love my lips – Steven Curtis Chapman
Funny. Slightly better than the original
  3. Promised Land – Sanctus Real
    This is awesomeness. nuff said
  4. In the Belly of the Whale – Newsboys
    Very singalongable.
  5. The Water Buffalo Song – Superchick
I give it the prize for most remixed. Glad they kept the the monologue but sad they didn’t feel the same way about the baby kangaroo. :(
  6. I’m So Blue – Paul Colman Trio
Epicness. Really. They took a so-so song and made it just awesome.
  7. The Hairbrush Song – Audio Adrenaline
I’m really not sure why they didn’t edit out the bit at the beginning. Prize for least loved song goes to this one.
  8. The Pirates Who Don’t do Anything – Relient K
Much better than the original but not quite in the awesome category.
  9. I Can be Your Friend – The O.C. Supertones
Awesome in a Nico Nico Chorus sort of way.
Earns the title of favorite song of the CD.
  10. His Cheeseburger – Tait
Meh. I never really loved the original version of this song either but this one is pretty well done.
  11. Stand – Skillet
When I first heard this I hated it. I was all SKILLET HOW COULD YOU DISAPPOINT ME SO GREATLY! but it grows on ya. After the third listen I was addicted and it became second favorite song on the CD. Still think it could do with less screaming though.

Overall it’s one of those things that you just take what you want and discard the rest.
